Scandinavian Hemslojd
translated literally from Swedish means "handicrafts often made from wood."

Tom Zarle's Carving Style is a blend of Scandinavian Flat Plane and Mountain Folk Style. Figures are made using Basswood and are handpainted or stained, and each is definitely one-of-a-kind and unique.

Scandinavian figures include folk figures and caricatures, elves, gnomes, old world Santa's, trolls, horses, and folk characters often associated with various holidays.

Tom participates in six to twelve art/craft shows each year, has been asked to teach Scandinavian flat plane style woodcarving at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC, and his work has been selected to be shown in the National Juried Art Show of the Southern Appalachian Artists' Guild in Blue Ridge, GA.
